Sports Law
Sports Law encompasses a multitude of areas of law brought together in unique ways to address the legal representation of professional and amateur athletes. Legal issues such as antitrust, contracts, torts, intellectual property and compliance are the most common.
New developments such as “NIL” (a term which stands for “name, image and likeness”) compensation for collegiate athletes has created a new and heightened legal representation requirement. This is a brand new (a 2021 development) area of sports law and is currently in its initial structure phase.
